The leviathan 2019 Volkswagen Atlas is big. As you check out one at Monterey Peninsula VW you realize its girth when you look at it from any angle and from the inside. The designers had something in mind when they provided a huge panoramic sunroof that almost runs the entire length of the cabin covering all three rows, probably to give you that closer to nature feeling. True to its name the Atlas is all about bold and muscular looks with sleek lines on the front and sides to enhance the appearance. The 20-inch Alloy wheel place you high above the ground to give you that superior feeling. The combination of style, luxury, power and performance pamper your senses to no end. The interior of the vehicle is just as impressive and deserves a short preview.
If the Atlas was your home, the cabin would be your hallway. There is no compromise on space anywhere including, headroom, legroom and elbow space. It spaciously accommodates a mix of 7 adults and kids with plenty of room left for all the knick-knacks that would come along on a road trip. With the last two rows collapsed, you are looking at about 96.8 cc of cargo space. The cabin interiors are meticulously crafted with diamond quilted design cloth which gives a premium finish.
Interestingly the inside of the cabin has a whole lot of cup holders – 17 to be precise which says something about the intended segment – a family wagon meant for long road trips. The other storage spaces consist of a lockable Glovebox, 4 Trunk tie down hooks, a grocery hook in the cargo area and under floor storage with felt lining in the cargo area.
The front row of the Atlas is spacious to the extent that there is more than enough for a front center armrest with storage compartment. The 6-way manual driver’s seat and 4-way manual front passenger seat shows VW’s magnanimity. The second row can easily accommodate three adults sitting alongside comfortably or even enough for 3 kid seats without crowding. The second row can be folded and pushed forward smoothly and easily to make entry way for the last row. The second-row seating can be enhanced with the available captain’s chairs which create still more space but reduce the total seating capacity to 6. There is plenty of legroom to go in the Atlas and there is over 33-inches left for the last row when all the front and second row passengers stretch themselves. The second-row seating is 60/40 split folding with 3rd row easy entry and a 50/50 split folding 3rd row for making more cargo space.
Convenience & Technology
The premium interiors of the Atlas sport Dual-zone manual climate control with adjustable air vents for all three rows. The driver and front passenger enjoy visor vanity mirrors. There are 2 reading lights per row and three 12V power outlets to support your devices. As we learnt from the Monterey Peninsula VW dealer, the most basic trim itself sports a Composition Color touchscreen sound system with 6.5″ color display, proximity sensor, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth and Volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect that gets more and more sophisticated as we go higher up the trims.
